My Review

How does Adam do it, I mean here is another five star read, which if I could rate higher I would, I was blown out of the water with his latest publication Tell Me I’m Wrong.

I was jumping for joy when I got that wee email that said I could read Adams new publication. I immediately downloaded that precious little file but, I was so disappointed I couldn’t read it straightaway as I had another book to finish, but the only thing I will say is, damn it was worth the wait.

Adam has a masterful art of producing a psychological thriller which will curl your toes and chill your very soul and Tell Me I’m Wrong is no different.

From the offset its clear that something is seriously wrong with this new family, Megan a new mother is struggling to cope finds herself isolated, her husband seems to be of no help to Megan and has taken to going fishing more often, for peace and quiet.

Life takes an ominous turn for Megan and Chris, a harrowing discovery in the village, a young child is found murdered and there are no suspects. Megan believes her husband is the killer, all signs point to him. Megan fears for herself and her daughter, what is her husband capable of and are they safe, then another child is murdered.

Is Megan right has Chris murdered the children, what’s his secret, can she discover the truth before another child loses their life.

I’m not going to give anything away, as its a book that until you pick it up and begin you simply wouldn’t feel the draw and desire to encapsulate the true essence of this psychological thriller.

Thank you to Adam Croft for another astounding book in which I have had the privilege to receive an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.

My Review

In The Blood by Lesley Welsh opens with a scene which leaves the reader daggling on the edge, a tantalising taste of what may be round the next page or over in the next chapter. I couldn’t hold back, turning the pages and devouring the scenes, I lost a day but gained another insight from Lesley which I shall savour for months to come.

In The Blood is a compelling, strong and vividly written book, the dialogue and narrative is simply astounding. I’m in awe of how Lesley managed to fulfil such distinctive characters and still engage several different backgrounds. Each character eventually converges from the past, intersecting with the present bringing to light ‘In The Blood’.

Lesley wrote about Grace Dobbs a young woman who lives an almost sedate life in the Australian countryside, when her life is propelled into the limelight due to a lone gunman. Hailed as a heroine her fame travels across continents attracting the attention of an unknown individual. What’s the reason, what do they want and is there something in Graces past she is unaware of, will travelling to Britain give her the answers or pull her into danger. I actually liked Grace she is quite a strong willed and determined character but with a streak of gullibility in a childish kind of way. There were many other personas that stood out each one unique, but not all appealing.

In the Blood is full of darkness and has an impressionable plot which will tempt and tease every part of your criminal mind, leaving you begging for more.

Thank you to Bloodhound Books, Sarah Hardy and to Lesley Welsh’s family for the opportunity and genuine honour to read an advanced readers copy of In the Blood by the late Lesley Welsh.

My Review

Liars by Frances Vick, Oh! where to begin.

Liars delves into the art of manipulation, lies and secrets, the threads of psychology wrap around the two main characters Jenny and David, the shades of lies ever changing distorting the reality of each character. Or is it the whole truth of Jenny and David’s lives clouded by the different paths each has taken until they both collide.

Fliting between Jenny and David I was agog at how much I hated each character, but in the next instant I started to feel sorry for them. How could Frances torment my mind, churning my emotions before slamming back to the what the hell feeling, absorbed by the intense, unbelievable actions a character unfurls in front of me, sending me straight back to the edge.

Frances has certainly encapsulated the feeling of a multitude of layers which needed peeled back to determine which character is responsible for which lie. All the while bringing the conclusion one step closer, will all you questions be answered, the tension and knowledge gained is it enough, well we will just have to see…..

Liars, a book of masterful deception written with the intension of each reader absorbing the lies and determining the truth.

Thank you to Frances Vick, Bookouture and Noelle for the opportunity to read and review an advanced readers copy of Liars in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.

My Review

Cargo is the first book by author J.C. Macek III I’ve had the opportunity to read and it certainly won’t be the last.

Cargo took me on an exhilarating journey over a period of 24 hrs, following the plight of Anthony Peterson, who finds himself trapped in a cargo container with demands from his kidnappers for a ransom sum of 10 million dollars, with the stipulation no police involvement or his wife will be murdered. A mobile phone, 24hrs of oxygen, can Peterson raise the money before the time runs out.

Cargo is very much an underestimated book in my opinion, the slight inclination of the what the plot is about was enough for me to falter, draw breath and plow through the book. I felt the power of the kidnappers, the helplessness of Peterson and the very air sucking out of my own body as I turned the pages. I love a book synopsis that hints but doesn’t fill my boots as such before I open the book, J.C Macek III nailed it for me.

There are loads of questions to be answered, Who is involved? Why have they chosen Peterson? Will Peterson make it out alive? Has the past a bearing on the present? Only you can discover the answers.

As you can see I didn’t really go into any detail of the book only because I want you to read it for yourself, find out what I loved about it, if you’ve not read any from Macek III what you waiting for I can’t see you being disappointed.

Are you ready for a book that I found hard to lay down, well get a wriggle on and grab your copy today.

Title: The Silent Girls

Author: Dylan Young

Book Description

‘Ambulance and police. Something’s happened. I don’t know what. But my little girl.’ A sob choked off the sentence… ‘It’s my daughter.’

When a young girl disappears from the edge of the local forest, the Gloucestershire police are convinced she’s been taken by the same killer who stabbed to death beautiful, young Emily Risman eighteen years ago. They’re desperate to finally have the evidence to put him away. To save another girl before it’s too late.

Only Detective Anna Gwynne thinks he isn’t the real killer.

Anna can’t find proof and as time is running out, she realises she needs to get inside the killer’s twisted mind. And she knows just who to ask. Hector Shaw, in prison for killing the six men who caused his own daughter’s death.

Can Anna get what she needs from Hector before another life is lost, or could he lead her down a path that puts her own life in grave danger?

An absolutely page-turning thriller that will have you hooked. If you love Val McDermid, Angela Marsons and M.J. Arlidge, you won’t be able to put down The Silent Girls.

My Review

The Silent Girls is the first in the series surrounding Detective Anna Gwynne by the fantastic author Dylan Young. Dylan opens with a crime which will have you gasping at the reality of how probable this violation of another human being could occur. The intense darkness drags you deeper into the depths of perpetual hell giving you a sense of bewilderment and a tangible feeling of suspense.

Two crimes, is there a historical connection, Detective Anna Gwynne is investigating both with the aid of an unlikely source, a serial killer Hector Shaw, who has a predilection for Gwynne. Can Gwynne save another girl before its too late, fingers point to the convicted killer of Emily Risman, but Anna believes there is more to the investigation and that the serial killer is still at large.

Hector Shaw a convicted serial killer draws Anna in but what are his intensions, does he really know who is responsible, Anna has to traverse the mind of a serial killer and hope that she is not leading herself into danger. There are so many suspects, I couldn’t believe how Dylan managed to lead me a merry dance. I mentally pointed my finger, eradiating suspects but with twists I didn’t see coming I always seemed to come full circle, doubting my powers of deduction. For all my speculations Dylan bamboozled me and he won out, bravo, a definite sign of spanking good thriller.

A fantastic 5*police thriller in which I thoroughly loved, delving deep into the dark mind of a serial killer, chilling my very soul. The Silent Girls drips with intense and insatiable criminal desire, pulling you deeper into the darkest of minds.

Thank you to Dylan Young, Bookouture and Noelle for allowing me to read and review an advanced readers copy of The Silent Girls and to be part of the #BlogBlast on publication day.

Richard Parker has took me way down there,
Showing me the darkside, with his writing flair.

Wave your kindle in the air,
Like you just don’t care.

Come on everybody…..

Okay, okay I’ll behave… hahaha not!

My Review

Richard has written a masterpiece of deliciously, devious darkness in his newest book, Keep Her Safe. Lock your door and turn on the lights, the opening chapter delivers an irrefutable sucker punch which will open all the flood gates of your worst fears, dare you read alone.

Maggie a single mother is awoken in the middle of the night by an intruder, a woman, Maggie knows the reason, a game of cat and mouse, follow the directions and your child will stay safe.

How far would you go to protect your child.

The pages flew as I delved deeper and deeper into the plot, but don’t think for one minute I’m going to give anything away. The synopsis is the ember which will ignite the fires within your imagination, filling your very mind with fear, intense anticipation, compelling you to ride the rollercoaster and hold on tight.

Richard has written Keep Her Safe with few characters, the use of two main characters, strengthens the plot, making it easier to connect with them, preventing the spaghetti junction which can occur in books with too many personas. I found that I sidled back and forth between the women feeling each and every emotion as there dilemma unfolded. The dark, ruthless and conniving personality of the psychopath pulling the strings filled my very soul with dread, an outpouring of ice water running through my veins but it didn’t stop me from wanting to know who and why they were trying to control these two women, to what end.

The short, sharp chapters satisfied my need and desire to devour every word written without losing momentum, pushing further and further into the book, looking behind me, checking every dark corner and holding my breath waiting for the next surge of twists.

Richard put the skids on me with the conclusion, after all the racing, turning and twisting, OMG that end smacked me in the face, wowzers I couldn’t predict the outcome, I’m still trying to scoop my jaw up from the floor.

Grasp your kindle with both hands you’ll be in for the ride of your life, go on lets get the party started, download today…………remember my advice #Dontreadalone

Thanks to Richard Parker, Bookouture, and Noelle Holten for a stonking great read which executed perfectly my every dream of a rip roaring, butt clenching, OMG psychological thriller.

Eye for an Eye (Jessica Daniel series Book 12) by [Wilkinson, Kerry]

Book Description

In bestselling crime author Kerry Wilkinson’s Eye for an Eye, DI Jessica Daniel is tasked with multiple investigations while facing demons from her past.

Seventeen years ago, Damian Walker abducted five women because the voices in his head told him to. Now he has been declared sane and is about to be released back onto Manchester’s streets with a new identity.

But within hours, there is another attack similar to his previous ones. Walker has proof it’s not him – but is he reliable, and, if so, who is trying to frame him?

DI Jessica Daniel and her chief are given a parallel task to the main investigation: Keep an eye on Walker – but that’s not all Jessica has to do.

Rock star Blaine Banner is playing a series of homecoming gigs but is convinced someone’s trying to kill him, while a bride-to-be is picketing the police station, demanding someone finds her missing fiancé.

All the while, faces from Jessica’s past are watching and waiting. Someone wants a word…

My Review

Kerry Wilkinson has gone and done it again, releasing the 12th book in the Jessica Daniels series, An Eye For An Eye, is there any more that Kerry can publish, a relentless series which just gets better and better the more Kerry writes. If you haven’t read any of the books regarding Jessica Daniels, I would regard it as a must to obtain the full effect of the continuation of the series.

An Eye For An Eye opens with the release of a known serial murderer who killed women seventeen years previously, Walker spent his years incarcerated in a hospital where medication controlled his psychosis. Within a short after his release a murder is committed bearing all the hallmarks of his past crimes, is he stable and no longer a threat or has he committed another heinous crime. Jessica becomes embroiled in the case surrounding Walker supporting witness protection, but also investigating the possibilities that Walker may have pulled the wool over the experts eyes and is not reformed.

While Jessica tackles one investigation, she is compelled to examine another, a rocker Blaine Banner believes he is being targeted and someone is trying to kill him, if this wasn’t enough Jessica’s case load just intensifies, cumulating in three investigations including a missing fiancé.

Jessica’s personal life is still in a perpetual state of turmoil, but her gutsy and strength of character, is what pertains to get her through a day. Jessica in this series has decisions to make which will affect everyone surrounding her. Kerry has built strong characters into the plotline some I didn’t care for but hey ho we can’t all be perfect. If I’m truthful Blaine Banner was a character that don’t sit well with me, maybe because of his childish antics in procuring the services of the police to pander to his insane revelations pertaining to the attempt on his life.

Kerry managed to build a plot which held my attention and had me gravitating to the main investigation but also as light relief the side plots facilitated a smooth transition of different investigative styles that Jessica portrayed according to the scenario.

An Eye For An Eye is a thoroughly captivating book which I couldn’t leave alone, the intense and suspenseful narration had me literally begging for more, roll on the next in the series,

Thank you to Kerry Wilkinson for the advanced readers copy of An Eye For An Eye to read and review in exchange for my honest opinion.
