Book Description

‘Family curses don’t exist. Sure, some families seem to suffer more pain than others, but a curse? An actual curse? I don’t think so.’

A family tragedy was the catalyst for Ian Perkins to return to the isolated cottage with his wife and young son. But now they are back, it seems yet more grief might befall the family.

There is still time to act, but that means Ian must face the uncomfortable truth about his past. And in doing so, he must uncover the truth behind the supposed family curse.

My Review

Broken Branches by M. Jonathon Lee, a plotline with a hint of the past, a bite of the present with an accumulation of twists which will make your head spin, the curse will play havoc with your mind.

Do you believe it, can it happen, can you break it?

Broken Branches covers several themes, obsession, mental health, family breakdowns and loss, Lee has portrayed these issues with a great deal of insight and compassion keeping true to each subject without being over zealous.

Ian Jenkins is a family man married to Rachel with a young son Harry, they have returned to Ian’s family home, the home which holds supressed memories and untold stories, the yard with the tree casting shadows, doubt and a sinister secret. Ian delves into the history of his family searching for answers, alienating his wife in the process, unable to hold his family together he believes his only hope is to break the curse but at what cost.

Broken Branches is dark psychological thriller which is a compelling read, a slow paced book which builds with each turn of the page, each chapter builds a picture, slotting the pieces of the puzzle together. I would certainly recommend reading Broken Branches, a good book which is different from the norm, a simmering plot with a heart wrenching end.

Thank you to a M. Jonathon Lee and a great new publishing house ‘Hideaway Falls’ for the opportunity to read and review Broken Branches in exchange for an honest review. I hope to hear more from Lee and Hideaway Falls.
